Follow these Steps:

  • Attend an information meeting.
  • Attend and successfully complete 27 hours of parents resource for information development and education (PRIDE) foster adoptive training.
  • Allow for an initial and annual home assessment to determine your ability to care for a child. There are no fees associated with the assessment.
  • Decide whether you want to provide foster care, adoption, and/or respite services.
  • Attend and successfully complete six hours of continuing training annually.

Once licensed, you are an active member of the Kent County Foster Parent Program and can be considered to provide foster parenting for a specific situation. The family of the foster child and the Department of Social Services (DSS) must agree on the selection of a foster parent. DSS reserves the right to disapprove any applicant not meeting requirements.
